Bright red flowers in spring and early summer.
As the flowers age they become more cream coloured.

A pollinator friendly plant including bees.

This has won the RHS Award of Garden Merit [1]. To win this impressive accolade the plants must have outstanding excellence for decorating a garden, be robust, not require highly specialist growing conditions or care and not be particularly susceptible to any pest or disease.

Good for the front of a border, in containers, an alpine bed, rock garden or by patio and it is generally easy to grow in a soil that is reasonably drained, unless there are Stem Eelworm present in your soil – also buy clean plants from a reputable supplier (see ‘Care and Maintenance’ below).

Yes, it will fill a small gap at the front of a flower bed.

Any reasonable soil, also tolerates acidic soil.

Normal, or dryish stony.

Care and maintenance:

When newly planted always keep it watered until the roots have grown down and it is able to find its own moisture.
Can be susceptible to Stem Eelworm which in heavy attacks will severely distort shoot growth. [2]

Allow 5 plants per square metre.
