Description
Lavatera × clementii Barnsley description:
Large, creamy-pink flowers with a cerise centre throughout the summer – very long flowering.
It makes a multi-stemmed large shrub with semi evergreen leaves that are a grey-green.
Good as a solitary shrub, or at the back of a border.
A pollinator friendly plant including bees.
This is a butterfly friendly plant.
Good for wildlife in general.
Other common name: Tree Mallow Barnsley.

Requires sun.
Is it useful as a ground cover plant?
Shrubs do cover the ground, but they are not a ‘ground cover plant’ because they add height and structure to a garden.

Well drained soil.
How much moisture:
Normal moisture or on the dry side.
Hardiness and, or, lifespan:
Requires a site that isn’t too exposed. It is fairly hardy.
Care and maintenance:
When newly planted always keep it watered until the roots have grown down and it is able to find its own moisture.
Prune hard in mid spring by cutting back to a low, central structure of branches.
